Growing People & The Urban Farm
Growing food, growing people, growing community
Growing People is MK Christian Foundation’s horticultural social enterprise; it’s all about growing food, growing people and growing community.
We run a market garden that supplies fresh produce all year round to our healthy eating project, Think Food, as well as to individuals and local restaurants (including The White Hart in Grafton Regis, The Navigation Inn in Cosgrove and The Greyhound in Haversham).
We are committed to environmentally sound methods of growing and production. We never use pesticides or herbicides and we try to make all our activities as carbon neutral as possible. And of course local growing significantly reduces the distance food travels before being eaten!
The Urb Farm is becoming one of our main growing sites, developing local food growing and healthy eating in an urban environment. It builds on work begun in partnership with Food Train, another local charity. Together, in this project, we seek to explore a sustainable local alternative to the current food system and provide opportunities for community learning and health improvement, particularly for disadvantaged people.
The Urb Farm is on a 2½ acre site at the heart of Wolverton, leased from Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council. Here our young people will be the core of the growing team; schoolchildren; referrals from the PCT and members of Wolverton and Greenley’s diverse community will also be involved.
The sale of produce, the provision of training and courses, school visits and allotment fees will all assist in making the project sustainable in the long term.
Interested? There are many ways you can support us, from joining our team of trainees and volunteers through to buying our produce or commissioning us to do some gardening for you.
Perhaps you have a group that would like to come and visit and maybe get involved in the Urb Farm site? Please contact Growing People at:
