Connexions - Personal Advisors

The Foundation has had two specialists Connexions Personal Advisors. One works specifically with young parents and one with young people who live, or want to live, independently. They work with 15 to 19 years old clients living in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.

Both Advisors are able to work with clients in their own homes and provide support with housing, benefits, life skills and parenting skills. They have established important links with other agencies and can sign post clients to other appropriate services such as drugs advice, counselling, childcare providers and health professionals.

Referrals to this service can be made by individuals or through other agencies.

Foundation for Parents

Foundation for Parents is a course funded by Learning Skills Council and ESF. The purpose is to help and support Young Parents To Be. As the course is government funded you may be entitled to claim a training allowance. You will be informed how to make decisions concerning the birth of your child, basic parenting skills and also be able to improve your basic skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT.

We offer help and advice on budgeting and claiming benefits. Alongside this, you are able to exercise with Aquanatal swimming and Yoga which keeps both you and your baby healthy.

We offer advice and support for you to return to education, training or employment.

We have a midwife and health visitor who visit regularly. After the birth you are able to meet up regularly on Wednesdays to share ideas, concerns and joys.

What the young parents value more is that they are able to mix with people of their own age and build good support networks.

SureStart - Family Support

A) MISSION

The Foundation Family Support Service seeks to give families a little extra support when they need it most.

B) OBJECTIVES

We can offer short term practical support and encouragement for families whilst working to promote independence.

We can provide information about activities in the area, which give families the opportunity to meet and interact with others.

We offer short term support with any of the following:

Families with children aged 0 - 5 who live in the SureStart areas:

We support families facing a variety of difficulties:

The service is funded by a government initiative SureStart to give 0 - 5 year olds the best start in life.

C) MONITORING

Each month a breakdown of the service delivery is recorded and sent to SureStart via e-mail (initial assessments and evaluations). The team meet regularly with SureStart to discuss and review each case. By sharing information and problem solving we attempt to provide the best available support. Other members of the Outreach team support where necessary, either with information, advice, guidance or practical support. The Outreach team meet once a month to disseminate information and review our services and individual staff supervisions take place every six weeks.
